Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan Review

5/5 Stars

What an amazing read this was. For lovers of books this is definitely something you should pick up and read right away. This beautifully written, easily read novel is about a character Clay who begins a night job at a mysterious book store in San Francisco. As his nights continue on he discovers that this isn't any ordinary book store but is strange and unusual just like the customers that come through only loaning not buying antique books. Clay and his intellectual knowledge from prior jobs and of course the internet and his talented friends delve deeper into what happens at this charming book store and discover its old secrets. This story and its world is thoroughly enjoyable and the positively uplifting mood helps you fly right through it. The many characters are really complex and interesting and had the most amazing back stories which are interwoven right into the main plot. There is a lot of technology used which is quite mind-blowing finding out about the capabilities technology has but the best part is that the author so cleverly collaborated the old and new together in such a realistic setting which made it all the more entertaining. If you are a lover of books or history then this is the book for you, this book shares a passion for books and adventure with its reader. An easy 5/5 stars for this novel.
