Damned by Chuck Palahnuik Review

3.5/5 stars

Chuck Palahniuk’s satire Damned is about a thirteen year old girl named Madison who dies and wakes up in hell. This is a unique spin on a coming of age story and recounts Madison’s journey on discovering the truth about her death and finding some organisation to her disorganised doomed fate. This book was slow to begin with but becomes more interesting and fast paced as the journey continues on and more information regarding her life on earth and the details of hell are divulged. Palahnuik’s dark yet funny novel comments on the superficiality of life on earth and explores spirituality and life after death. I did really enjoy this book and how hilariously obscene it was, with a very detailed descriptions of each adventure the main characters have. Warning though this book isn’t that suitable for younger reasons so I would be ware before picking it up, but I would recommend it for those who love a smart satire and bizarre situations that hell throws at us which are standard for Chuck Palahnuik. Although I did have a few little issues with this book overall I gave it a 3.5 out of 5 stars.
